Dr. Clair Barefoot is a clinical and health psychologist who specializes in working with physicians and medical trainees. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Regina in 2017 and has built her career in the public health system, including the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation and Arthritis Centre and most recently as part of the Multi-Organ Transplant team.
Dr. Clair provides evidence-based interventions, with a particular focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She is compassionate, creative, and dedicated to providing a safe space to explore and practice managing stress, dealing with difficult interpersonal interactions, and maintaining health and well-being in the medical system.
Because she has worked closely with medical teams, Dr. Barefoot understands the unique stressors of residency — long hours, relentless pressure, life-and-death decisions, and the sacrifices that often come at the expense of personal well-being.
She knows that medical training is not just demanding, it can also be isolating, and that residents need a safe, confidential space to talk to someone who gets it.
Working with Dr. Barefoot means accessing a psychologist who understands both the science of mental health and the culture of medicine. She provides evidence-based strategies to manage stress, prevent burnout, and build resilience so residents can not only survive their training, but also find ways to thrive in their careers and personal lives.
